Welcome

Photo courtesty of The Jim Henson Company

Since 1982, the Jim Henson Foundation has made over 850 grants for the development and presentation of new works of contemporary American puppet theater. Each year the number of applicants and the scope of their artistic vision continues to grow. We are proud to support the extraordinary work of so many fine artists. If you are interested in learning more about our granting program, visit our Grant Guidelines section.

To learn more about upcoming shows, take a look at our Puppet Happenings listings on this site.  New York listings - both Adult and Family include all shows involving puppetry. National listings include shows which have received a foundation grant and special events of note. Museum Exhibits highlight puppetry on display, both temporary and permanent collections.  Puppetry Festivals list upcoming festivals that celebrate puppetry in all its forms.  Professional classes identify opportunities to learn more about the art.  Subscribe to our Puppet Happenings email list to receive highlights from our listings in your inbox every Friday.  Updates are posted about once a week.

Although our foundation no longer produces a major festival, we continue to support the presentation of new works of puppet theater through a limited number of grants to theaters and other presenters. You can learn more about our past festivals in our Henson Festival Archive section.

Whether you are an artist or an audience member, we encourage you to seek out examples of this beautiful and ancient art form.
