Photo courtesty of The Jim Henson Company
Since 1982, the Jim Henson Foundation has made close to 600 grants for the development of new works of contemporary American puppet theater. Each year the number of applicants and the scope of their artistic vision continue to grow. We are proud to support the extraordinary work of so many fine artists. If you are interested in learning more about our granting program, visit our Grant Guidelines section.

To learn more about upcoming shows by past and current grantees, you can sign up to receive our newsletter Puppet Happenings by email or you can simply read it on this site. The newsletter is divided into New York area Adult listings, New York area Family listings, and National listings. New York listings - both Adult and Family include all shows involving puppetry. National listings include only shows which have received a foundation grant, or special events of note. Updates are posted about once a week. We have also recently added a new section of Puppet Happenings devoted to Museum Exhibits and Puppetry Festivals.

Although our foundation no longer produces a major festival, we continue to support the presentation of new works of puppet theater through a limited number of grants to theaters and other presenters. You can learn more about our past festivals in our Henson Festival Archive section.

Whether you are an artist or an audience member, we encourage you to seek out examples of this beautiful and ancient art form.
