City Parks Foundation is thrilled to announce that the family-friendly original marionette production of Little Red’s Hood is opening at the City Parks Foundation Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park, this Saturday, February 14. Little Red’s Hood, presented in 2023 as part of our travelling CityParks Puppetmobile, is a fresh retelling of the celebrated "Little Red Riding Hood" tale updated with a modern sensibility that will appeal to children growing up in New York City. Performances will be held on weekends at 11AM and 1PM, with select additional special performances on February 19 and 20 during the spring break week.
Little Red’s Hood features a dozen hand-made marionettes crafted by the expert puppeteers from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre. The story spotlights Little Red, a smart, young city dweller who is obsessed with her smartphone. Wulfric, a misunderstood wolf with a sweet tooth, crosses paths with Little Red on her travels to deliver her Grandma cupcakes and the trouble begins. This story offers a comical lesson on the importance to disconnect from our digital lives and enjoy real life moments with friends and family. The show is fun for all ages, but may be best suited for children ages 3 - 8.

Adapted by Puppetworks Artistic Director Nicolas Coppola, from a WPA script given to our founding company Suzari Marionettes in 1938, by Pinocchio's Broadway author, it tells the adventures of a marionette, from being carved out of wood, to becoming a real live boy through good deeds, after several misadventures.

Mary and her little lamb are the best of friends—they do everything together. That is until one day, a substitute teacher with an extremely strict “no lambs in school” policy arrives, forcing Mary and her little lamb to spend an entire day apart for the first time ever. Mary Had A Little Lamb And Also A Substitute Teacher is a brand new musical by Molly Reisman and Clayton Daniel Briggs. Featuring a virtuosic live score, puppetry, and interactive storytelling, this 35-minute show is a high energy, laugh filled adventure that reminds us that, while making new friends can be scary, it can also be quite a lot of fun.

"Planet of the Grapes" - An Epic, Tabletop, Sci-Fi Adventure

Peter Michael Marino’s wildly inventive, internationally acclaimed lockdown hit “Planet of the Grapes” transports audiences to a futuristic world where talking grapes reign supreme and humans are rendered speechless. Directed by Michole Biancosino, this fast-paced comedic homage blends the charm of Victorian toy theater with the sci-fi spectacle of the 1968 classic “Planet of the Apes,” creating an interactive, immersive, all-ages adventure packed into a juicy 60 minutes.
In “Planet of the Grapes,” an American astronaut crew crash-lands on a distant planet where an intelligent, articulate, and evolved grape society enslaves mute humans. What unfolds is a high-energy theatrical experience that spills off the cutting-board stage and into the audience - blending satire, spectacle, and unleashed imagination with uncorked, creative madness. Performed on a carefully concocted tabletop stage - complete with hundreds of grapes, dozens of corks, and a pocket universe of scenery - the production brings big ideas to small scale. An original electronic score by Michael Harren underscores a story that playfully explores themes of science vs. religion, class clashes, planetary concerns, and humanity’s sense of superiority.
